Our fishing days were spent with Jarrett Sasser, owner of High Desert Angler in Santa Fe. The private waters are part of a lease that he manages. Excellent management job! Fishing these waters makes it hard to go back into the public waters. This section of the Pecos River is located about 25 miles east of Santa Fe and four miles north of the Village of Pecos. Day one was a very cold and dreary, pictureless day. The second day was just the opposite. We covered two sections of the river that were new to us. While the trip wasn't as productive this year as last year, we caught quite a few. According to the guide, we did great. However, he said that a good steelhead trip was a few hook ups and only landing a couple of fish.
